About the event
In 2005, a physician’s assistant and part-time pilot in Ohio became concerned by the amount of WWII veterans who were leaving this world without ever seeing the national memorial dedicated to them. He decided to do something about it. He put a handful of his patients in his plane and flew them to their memorial in DC. When he told one what he was planning, he “was ready for him to say yes or no...but [he] wasn't ready for him to start crying.”
Thus was born the national non profit Honor Flight program which, now 13 years later, carries any and all veterans to the memorials constructed in their honor, free of charge.
Please join your fellow alums in welcoming and/or escorting a group of 85 of these noble octogenarians and nonagenarians who sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy.
Join us for any or all of their activities (RSVPs required please especially for the airport piece):
8:00 AM: At the gate or security (sometimes they have a live band there to greet the veterans as they emerge from the flight): Reagan National (DCA) Terminal A Sun Country Flight #8601
12:15-12:45 PM: At the WWII Memorial (personally thanking/welcoming/interacting with the veterans)
12:45 PM-2:45 PM: At the Korean War Memorial (same)
